This is a large three-dimensional relief Thangka, measuring 1.43 meters in height and 1.09 meters in width. It is crafted entirely from high-purity purple copper (pure copper) in its raw, unpainted form, paired with a carved solid wood frame, combining lasting durability with a minimalist, sacred traditional aesthetic.
The work adopts intangible cultural heritage craftsmanship: hand-forged copper chasing and relief carving, with no mineral pigment painting or gilding applied. The purple copper plate is shaped through annealing and hand forging to build layered three-dimensional relief, with every detail meticulously hand-chased — from the serene features of the Bodhisattva to the flowing folds of the robes, the intricate thousand hands, and the fine patterns of the lotus throne. The piece is finished with professional anti-oxidation treatment to preserve the natural metallic luster and texture of the copper, extending its lifespan while retaining its pure, monochrome appearance.
The central figure is the Eleven-Faced Thousand-Armed Thousand-Eyed Guanyin Bodhisattva, masterfully sculpted in solid copper. The main hands are held in anjali mudra, grasping a cintāmaṇi (wish-fulfilling jewel), while thousands of hands radiate outward, each with an eye finely carved in its palm, all seated atop an exquisitely detailed lotus throne. Above are the Five Dhyani Buddhas, while below on both sides are Manjushri Bodhisattva and Vajrapani Bodhisattva, with traditional Thangka elements like auspicious clouds, mountains, waters, and lotus ponds rendered in textured relief in the background. Symbolizing great compassion and universal protection, it is believed to safeguard households, bring peace, wisdom and merit, and ward off misfortunes. Stripped of color to highlight the precision of the craft and the solemn, heavy texture of pure copper, this unpainted version offers a timeless, understated sacred presence, ideal for worship and display.
